Part 3 of my mini-series on accessories! In case you missed them: intro, part 1, part 2. In this post I will be highlighting wrist accessories.

The watch pictured is from Fossil, and it was gift from my mom for my 20th birthday. :) Weird to think that I turned 20 almost two years ago! WAHHH. hahaha The watch was $85 and is quite expensive for a watch when you think about it. You can get a watch for less than $20 at Target, which seems practical. Well, I can talk about why I got this watch specifically another time. Pictured here is also an extra watchband that I have. My watch originally came with a white leather watchband (not pictured), and last summer I bought the red silicone one. I love the boldness of the red and the sportiness of the silicone. However, realizing that in some situations I may need to look more business-setting friendly I bought the taupe leather one. It goes with everything! Whenever I see a Fossil Outlet store, I pop in to see if they have any bands on sale. I’ve only bought bands at Outlets store- the taupe one was only $7!

The two bracelets are from H&M and a very new purchase- I haven’t worn them yet! The woven bracelet with embedded rhinestones was $5.95 and comes in a coral-pink color and turquoise color as well. Not something I’d normally pick up, but I’ve seen them a lot on style blogs and love how they look stacked with other bracelet. The other bracelet was maybe $2.50? It’s not on the website anymore so I can’t check the price. Since both have gold hardware I can wear them together and it’ll look good. :) I totally forgot that my watch has silver hardware though…OOPS! Guess I have to look for some bracelets with silver hardware then so I can stack them with my watch.

Part 2 of my mini-series on accessories! Read the intro and check out part 1 if you missed them! :)

As you can tell this post is centered on rings. I was never a big ring person. I thought they’d get in the way while I write, type, or just anything. I didn’t think they were very practical. I still kind of believe that so I bought these rings with the intention of wearing them if I was to go out to a nice meal or out at night so they won’t get in the way of everyday tasks. Going along with that, I justify buying rings that are more “flashy” for lack of a better word, than a basic ring. For example, the ring I wear everyday is just an engraved silver band that was a gift from my bf.

Going clockwise from the top:

Both the rhinestone bar and black jeweled ring are double-finger rings. I’ve been really liking those for the past semester, and was lucky that these two were gifts. So unfortunately I cannot tell you how much they cost, but they’re both from Charming Charlie’s at Yorktown Mall.

The next ring is a wrap-around that looks like a feather, with some rhinestones embedded in it. I got it from Forever 21 awhile ago so I can’t remember what it cost, but max. is $3.50. So cheap! But that is where I start to get wary. Rings from Forever 21 are cheap so it’s almost guaranteed that they’re made from cheap metal. This means it can turn your skin green if you wear it long enough. I don’t wear rings from Forever 21 for more than half a day, usually because I’m not out for more than that, and I’ve been okay. A tip I’ve heard is to coat the inside of the ring with clear nail polish. I’ll have to try that sometime!

The last two rings are also from Forever 21 for no more than $3.50 each, too. The flower ring is also a double-finger one, and I think this one is just very sweet looking and perfect for summer. I really like the extra touch of the fake pearl beads in the center. When I first bought it I was afraid that the flower petals would be fragile and snap off, but they seem pretty solid and sturdy.

This last triangle ring was definitely a purchase out of my comfort zone. hahaha I would typically consider this to be too flashy for me. :P But, I bought it anyways because I really liked the unique triangle shape, and the glossy black finish.

Accessories!

Can you spot all 5 pairs of earrings?

This is the first part of my mini-series on accessories, which I explained in my intro post. Click the link if you missed it! :)

As I was packing to leave campus for a mini vacation I glanced over at my pile of necklaces-tangled up and sitting in a bag, rings in another bag, and earrings strewn allover the top of my dresser. I usually never bring accessories with me on vacation because I think it’s unnecessary, but since I want to practice accessorizing things there is no better way to practice than on vacation! On vacation I’ll have to get dressed every day as opposed to sitting around all day in my pajamas because I don’t have anywhere to go. haha

So how exactly did I pack my accessories and how did I choose what to bring? Well I’m about to tell you! I like to be really organized and concise when I pack. Combine that with the number of random little bags from purchases that I like to hang on to, and you’ve got yourself packing-made-easy…Pei-style.

First baggie: The little red bag came with the black jeweled double-finger ring, which was a gift. The bag is big enough to fit all my rings in it, so in they go! Rings- done.

Second baggie: This canvas bag was actually reclaimed from my bf. I gave him a bracelet from Fossil that came in this bag and a tin container. For some reason, I wanted the drawstring bag over the tin container, and since my bf didn’t want it I took it. How appropriate is it that I use this Fossil bag to carry my watch and extra watchbands from Fossil? haha I usually wear my watch, but it does fit into the pouch if necessary. Bracelets go on your wrist, too, so it seemed appropriate for this bag to become the “wrist accessories” bag.

Third baggie: Interesting little fact- I think this plastic baggie is actually used to hold marijuana, but I like Batman a lot and thought this little bag was so darling (hahaha) that I asked my friend for one. He obliged. I’ve been searching for a purpose for this bag for awhile now, and finally found one when I needed something small enough to hold a few stud earrings.

Fourth baggie: It’s another plastic baggie because I don’t have any medium sized drawstring cloth bags to hold my necklaces. This quart (I think?) sized plastic bag from IKEA looks a little nicer than the usual bags you’d pack sandwiches in so it doesn’t look too tacky, right?

What’s great is that all the little bags fit into the largest one! Compact. Concise. Flexible enough to fit into that little awkward empty crevice in your suitcase. You can easily grab the bag when you want an accessory, and since it’s organized you’ll find what you need easily! This summer I’ve decided to practice the art of accessorizing. I’ve never been big on accessories, and as a creature of habit I tend to wear the two same, meaningful accessories every day. I always wear my watch (for practical reasons and because it was my 20th birthday gift from my mom), and the ring my bf got me two and a half years ago. I wear honestly almost every day and the proof is the tan lines I have from both. hahahaha

Anyways, this past spring I started following two petite fashion bloggers, Extra Petite and Wendy’s Look Book. I’ve been learning a lot about fashion, where to shop for petites, and sales! I have been turning my knowledge into inspiration for slowing transforming my closet into one of a sophisticated woman, as that is my ultimate goal now that I am out of college (still weird). I love reading both blogs as Jean of Extra Petite is a working woman in the East Coast that requires work appropriate clothes. Wendy of Wendy’s Look Book does more freelance work in the West Coast and has more of a laid back look.

From reading the blogs I’ve noticed that accessories completely elevate an outfit! That is why this summer, while I am not in school, I want to practice! I have collected accessories over the years, mostly as gifts, and they have not gotten much wear. There are quite a few pieces that I really adore and would love to show them off!

In the next couple of days (or today if I am too impatient to put things on queue hahaha), I will be rolling out a mini-series of posts focused on accessories and sharing with you the majority of my collection of accessories, where, and why I bought them. I hope you guys are interested!

This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day: The Humane Society of the United States is out with another damning undercover investigation, this one into the mistreatment of the famed Tennessee Walking Horses, show horses known for their unique four-beat “running walk.”

The investigation found many of the horses to be subjected to a cruel practice known as soring — the intentional infliction of pain to feet and legs to produce an exaggerated gait known as the “Big Lick.”

The video shows Jackie McConnell, one of the sport’s leading trainers, and his stable hands beating horses with wooden sticks and using electric cattle prods on them to make them lift their feet in the pronounced gait judges like to see. McConnell’s staff also apply caustic chemicals to the ankles of the horses and them wrap them with plastic wrap so the chemicals eat into the skin.

“That creates intense pain and then the ankles are wrapped with large metal chains so the horses flinch, or raise their feet even higher,” said the Humane Society’s Keith Dane.

Soring has been illegal for more than 40 years under the federal Horse Protection Act. As a result of the HSUS investigation, McConnell and his associates have been charged with felony conspiracy to violate the HPA, as well as numerous violations of the Tennessee Cruelty to Animals Statute. McConnell is expected to plead guilty to one count.

Summer was a 5-time Grammy winner who shot to superstardom in the ’70s with iconic hits like “Last Dance,” “Hot Stuff,” and “Bad Girls.” Her reign continued into the ’80s, with “She Works Hard for the Money” and “This Time I Know It’s for Real.”
