Mrs. Lin, an aunt not by blood, but by years and years of friendship between our families, approached me Monday at the hospital and told me that my dad always my sister and I as priority #1. He had told everyone that he was going to live to see me graduate college in May. However, last Tuesday he found out he only had two weeks left to live- he wasn’t going to make it to my graduation. Mrs. Lin said that my dad called her to tell her the news and just cried and cried. When he had stopped crying he said that he had one request for her. Mrs. Lin said she told him she’d do anything, anything for my dad. The first thing he said was that Mrs. Lin and everybody else from our close-knit Chinese School family must go to my graduation in his place. She said yes, that they would all be there for me to see me graduate.
Mrs. Lin told this story last night at my dad’s memorial service. Afterwards there were a handful of people who piped up saying, “me!”, “I’ll go!”, “me too!”. Oh goodness, upon hearing that I just burst into tears.
At the banquet after the memorial service I learned that I can only get 8 tickets. I am going to need a lot more than that! The parents joked about having to raffle off the tickets. hahaha
